| Pianist Yonathan Avishai Releases 1st Single From New Trio Album First single which gives its title to the new trio album by Yonathan Avishai (a member of the Avishai Cohen Quartet and a long time collaborator of bassist Omer Avital), "Shapes and Sounds (A Song for Noa)" is a lovely ballad with bluesy accents which is typical of the style of the French-Israeli pianist: a way of playing with "shapes" and "sounds", building a tune out of the very basic elements of jazz within a few notes. A refined means, sensitive and inspiring, inherited from Duke Ellington or Ahmad Jamal, which makes this romantic song a pure moment of love and happiness. Five years after the release of his album "Joys and Solitudes" on ECM, pianist Yonathan Avishai is back on jazz&people—the label that discovered him in 2014. Celebrating a decade of fertile collaboration with his trio, with Yoni Zelnik on double bass and Donald Kontomanou on drums, the musician releases "Shapes and Sounds" an album in which he magnifies everything that has made the strength of his style and its reputation. What the press says about Yonathan Avishai: "A reflective and resourceful pianist, with a light touch and a finely nuanced sense of rhythm" — London Jazz News "An eloquent showcase of the virtues of economy." — Jazzwise "His solos, spacious and unhurried, are lovely, sounding as if he's in no rush to prove himself." — Down Beat write your comments about the article :: © 2024 Jazz News :: home page |
