| An exceptional Art Ensemble of Chicago's 50th Anniversary Celebration World Tour From Melbourne to Chicago, from Sao Paulo to Paris, from London to Rome, from Istanbul to Stockholm, from Washington DC to Vilnius and so on: after the releasing of the double cd (PI Recordings) on April 26 as well after the releasing of the double vynil (Erased Tapes) on July 26, the Art Ensemble of Chicago (AEC) is now preparing to leave for a new world tour. It is beginning on August 25th in Melbourne (Australia) within the Supersense Festival and will continue on August 30th in Chicago, the city where the dream began five decades ago: 2019 is in fact, the commemoration of a half-century of magical music making from The Art Ensemble of Chicago, a band that has been at the forefront of creative improvised music, the Great Black Music, since forming in 1969. "The Art ensemble of Chicago' 50th Anniversary Tour is a culmination and continuation through and beyond six decades of Great Black Music, Ancent To The Future" Don Moye affirms. We Are On The Hedge, the anniversary celebration world tour consists on 16 venues all around the world. The tour will last till the end of 2020. The particularity of this tour is that out of 16 concerts, as many as 7 (Chicago, Washington DC, London, Paris and Brasil) will see the participation of the full orchestra composed of 20 elements. AEC has also long served as the flagship ensemble of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), the august Chicago-based organization that also fostered the careers of members such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, and Wadada Leo Smith, among many others. Now led by the surviving members Roscoe Mitchell and drummer Famoudou Don Moye, the tour is also a loving tribute to the band's three original members who have passed: Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, and most recently, Joseph Jarman. "Ancient to the Future" they are used to say. Surely towards a brighter future thanks, once again, to their music. 50th anniversary WORLD TOUR 2019/2020 08/23/2019 Supersense Festival, Melbourne - AUSTRALIA 08/30/2019 Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago - USA 10/04/2019 Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome - ITALY 10/06/2019 La Cite Congres, Nantes - FRANCE 10/11/2019 Stockholm Jazz Festival, Stockholm - SWEDEN 10/12/2019 Mondriaan Jazz Festival, The Hague - THE NETHERLAND 10/15/2019 Casa da Musica, Porto - PORTUGAL 10/17/2019 Vilnius Jazz, Vilnius - LITHUANIA 10/18/2019 AkBank Festival, Istanbul - TURKEY 10/19/2019 Skopje Jazz Festival, Skopje - REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA 10/24/2019 SESC, Sao Paulo - BRASIL 10/26/2019 SESC, Sao Paulo - BRASIL 10/27/2019 SESC, Ribeirao Preto - BRASIL 11/23/2019 EFG London Jazz Festival, London - UNITED KINGDOM 12/14/2019 Kennedy Center, Washington DC - USA 02/07/2020 Sons D'Hiver, Paris - FRANCE ....and others more to come.... 50th Anniversary MUSICIANS and GUESTS Roscoe Mitchell: saxes and flute Famoudou Don Moye: drums, congas and percussion With guests: Hugh Ragin: trumpet, piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn Tomeka Reid: cello Brett Carson: piano Silvia Bolognesi: double bass Junius Paul: double bass Dudu Kouaté: african percussion and objects Full orchestra (Chicago-Brasil-London-Washington CD and Paris) includes: Steed Cowart: Conductor Fred Berry: Trumpet Nicole Mitchell: Flute Jaribu Shahid: Bass Jean Cook: Violin Eddy Kwon: Viola Christina Wheeler: Electronics / Vocals.
