Renee Rosnes Quartet

One of the premiere pianists and composers of her generation, Renee Rosnes has toured and recorded with legendary musicians James Moody, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, JJ Johnson, Bobby Hutcherson, the SFJAZZ Collective, and her husband, the pianist Bill Charlap. A New York City staple for years, every member of Rosnes' all-star quartet has an equally impressive résumé and brings their absolute best to this group.

The house band led by saxophonist Carol Sudhalter opens each jam with the work of Louis Armstrong. All are welcome, regardless of instrument (vocalists, too!). Don't play? Come listen!

Global Mashup 5: Balkan Punk Meets West Africa

We're mashing up 2 cultures on 1 stage with an open dance floor! Starting with dance lessons, each band plays a set, then the two meet and jam. Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Toronto's multiaward winning, world-touring, groundbreaking guerrilla-folk party-punk Balkan-brass band, meets NYC's Kakande, with lush vocals, sinewy koras, flutes, cellos and the balafon (xylophone) of a master griot from Guinea. Come ready to dance!

Chamber Music America Celebrates National Chamber Music Month

Join Chamber Music America (CMA) in concert for the 7th Annual National Chamber Music Month, celebrating the many styles of small ensemble music performed today. Highly acclaimed and distinctive ensembles Chano Dominguez and the Beijing Guitar Duo present a program that includes new works funded through CMA's commissioning programs.

Ba Ban Chinese Music Society: Changes - the Energy of Music & Dance

Inspired by the ancient Chinese wisdom residing in the Book of Change (I-Ching), which explores the concept of Bagua (eight trigrams) and Yin-Yang, this music and dance work "Changes" demonstrates the Eastern thought of the power of changes, the relationship between changeable small units, and the big universal energy, that emanates from humans and nature. Performed by Zhou Yi and Ban Ban Chinese Music Society of New York.

Country Blues & Dance

Celebrate the shared music and dance traditions of the Piedmont, the hilly region stretching from Georgia to the Chesapeake, and the Appalachians, which for centuries were equally popular among rural blacks and whites. Blues harmonica master Phil Wiggins is joined by guitarist Rick Franklin and fiddler Marcus Moore, and the incomparable dance artistry of Junious Brickhouse. The Harris Brothers, Appalachian blues songsters, round out the program with Reggie on guitar, Ryan on bass, and a kick drum fashioned from a beaten-up suitcase!

Kaia Kater

Kaia Kater was born of African-Caribbean descent in Quebec, and her original music is influenced by the Canadian folk music of her parents and the years she studied and performed Appalachian music in West Virginia. Her songs are fueled by her rich low tenor vocals, jazz-influenced instrumentation, and beautifully understated banjo that have landed her in the spotlight around the world, garnering critical acclaim from outlets such as NPR, CBC Radio, and Rolling Stone.

As the pioneers of Kabir Rock, Kabir Cafe is on a quest to ensure the verses of 15th century mystic poet-saint Kabir are accessible through contemporary music to the rest of the world. Kabir Cafe's music reflects the universality of their namesake by integrating his timeless words with the vibrancy of folk music from Malawi and the discipline of Carnatic music with the gritty energy of rock.

Queens Jazz Orchestra: It Ain't Over Yet

This concert is the title of QJO's Music Director Jimmy Heath's latest big band album "It Aint Over Yet", a testimony to his life and long legacy of great music. The compositions are all arranged by Jimmy Heath for this 17-piece big band and will span the corridors of his musical and creative imagination. This is Jimmy Heath's way to say to the world that he is still a vibrant musical force because "It Ain't Over Yet".
