Gustav Brom Orchester - Gustav Brom Goes Pop
Czechian Gustav Brom led one of the foremost European big bands of the 1960's. During this period it was rated among the top ten big bands in the world. They played festivals and concerts throughout Europe, India and Cuba, with such international stars as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Conniff, and Maynard Ferguson appearing as guest artists. The album rates more as easily accessible jazz than pop. With hip modern arrangements and outstanding solos, this 1970 release is proof positive that jazz had invaded the Iron Curtain and won.

Gustav Brom mit der tschechischen Big Band - Swinging The Jazz
Czechian Gustav Brom led one of the foremost European big bands of the 1960's. This amazing Czechoslovakian band was rated among the top ten big bands in the world, playing festivals and concerts throughout Europe, India, and Cuba. Most of the pieces are by the band members, just one more reason why this was such a tight-knit group. Lypso swings with strong tenor and trumpet solos. On Dedicated to Eric a medium-tempo melody alternates with somber sustained chords and impressive baritone and trumpet solos. Trombones and drums start and end Contraband with a baritone-drum duet and bass solo packed in-between.

Gustav Brom Orchester - Missa Jazz
Composed and arranged by band trumpeter Jaromír Hnilička, Missa plays like an oratorio without the choir, but make no mistake, the emphasis is on the Jazz. There's swing in the music's solemnity, as well as inspired improvisation. The online record site Dusty Groove marvels at the "…great breakaway solos" and "stunning overall conception" of the album. With its extended length and processional feel, Kyrie highlights this sequence of seven pieces. A must album for those who take their big band jazz religiously.

Edgar Wilson - Goin' Straight
Born in Mozambique, pianist Edgar Wilson enrolled in the Vienna Academy of Music at the age of 21 to study with, among others, the acclaimed classical pianist Friedrich Gulda. Wilson gravitated towards jazz, however – a musical direction that his Mozambique roots served him well. Centered in Munich, he has become a staple on the German music scene, touring extensively with jazz violinist Hannes Beckmann, and soul jazz drummer George Greene's band. Wilson's 1979 debut album pairs him with bassist N.H. Řrsted Pedersen, whose work with the likes of Dexter Gordon and Oscar Peterson has garnered him near-legendary status.

Mel Lewis and The Jazz Orchestra – Play The Compositions Of Herbie Hancock – Live In Montreux
Mel Lewis first teamed up with renowned trumpeter Thad Jones to form the band that later became the legendary Mel Lewis Orchestra. Brimming with some of the best players in the Big Apple, the band quickly found success. They also became the Monday night band at the world's most famous jazz club, New York's The Village Vanguard. With Jones' departure in '78, Mel took over as leader, shaping the band into "one of the most exciting and innovative big bands ever to grace the jazz scene" (jazz writer Mike Hennessey). This album's theme is special: pieces by one of the greatest jazz musicians of the last half century, Herbie Hancock, with Bob Mintzer taking on the arranging duties.
