| Living the Dream releases debut album: Nyasa by SAM Serfer From the infectious jive of township Jazz circa 1960 to knee-slapping Country & Western; modern African Jazz to the pounding rhythms and wailing guitar of Rock, Living The Dream's Nyasa is the result of living and growing up in South Africa. The launch of their first CD features a combination of some of South Africa's finest musicians and a flavour that is truly South African. Legendary McCoy Mrubata on Saxophone and Flute needs no introduction. His incredible tone and vibe makes for a sound that is unmistakably local, inspiringly beautiful. He joins members from bands such as Radio Kalahari Orkes (RKO) and Casette, with some of the best Jozi/Soweto "jazzcats" to produce an African-country-folk-swing that only locals could have come up with. The music is all original and mostly composed by LTD co-founder and guitarist Friso Woudstra (RKO/ Casette). It lays a foundation for the rest of the band to perfect melodies and grooves that will have South Africa stomping to the beat. Drummer/producer Bradley Cooper has skillfully perfected the production of a combination of 6 solo instrumentalists together without them overpowering the audience or each other. The band includes McCoy Mrubata (sax), Friso Woudstra (guitar), Pule Makona (piano), Wynand Davel (violin), Tebogo Sedumedi (bass), Bradley Cooper (drums). The album launch takes place on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at Rhapsody's, Menlyn Piazza at 19:00. Entry is free write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
