| Musicians regroup for acoustic roots Three former members of Salt Spring's 1980s party band Club Mongo will demonstrate their new tour de force acoustic roots and blues formation with a CD launch party for The Pinkertons this Friday, Sept. 30. Auntie Kate (Roland), Tom Bowler and Dave Roland will be at Steffich Fine Art to celebrate the release of their new CD titled The Pinkertons. A press release describes how after Club Mongo, Bowler and Kate Roland went on to create Auntie Kate and the Uncles of Funk, a popular blues act playing all across western Canada. Dave Roland, staying closer to home, has been in a number of well-known island acts, most notably The Barley Bros. As The Pinkertons, band members pursue a mix of jazz, blues, country, reggae and pop (or anything else that tickles their fancy). The CD bed tracks were recorded on Salt Spring Island at Greg Pauker's Sculptor Sound with extra tracks, mixdown and mastering done in Bowler's studio in Victoria. In an effort to display additional talents, the artwork was done by Dave Roland. The lineup is: AK Roland on vocals, accordion and keys, Dave Roland on vocals, bass and guitar, and Tom Bowler on vocals, guitar, bass and foot drum. Join them for tunes, refreshments and general hilarity at Steffich Fine Art in Grace Point Square this Friday at 7 p.m. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Jazz News :: home page |
