| Chihiro Yamanaka Trio at Regattabar and Iridium The Chihiro Yamanaka Trio featuring Bernard "Pretty" Purdie will present two Universal/Decca CD release concerts: June 22, 2011 at Regattabar (Cambridge, MA) and June 30, 2011 at Iridium Jazz Club (New York City.) At Iridium, Chihiro and Purdie will be joined by bassist Ben Williams. Chihiro Yamanaka's latest CD, "Forever Begins" (Universal/Decca), her U.S. major label debut, was released in May, 2011. "Forever Begins" was first released in Japan (on Universal/Verve) in the fall of 2010, where it quickly ascended to #1 on the jazz charts. In April, 2011, it was released in Europe on Universal's EmArcy imprint. The CD features bassist Ben Williams and drummer Kendrick Scott. At Regattabar, the trio will perform one set, at 7:30 PM. Upcoming performances by the Chihiro Yamanaka Trio celebrating the release of the CD include July 9 at the Umbria Jazz Festival (Perugia, Italy.) At the Umbria festival, Chihiro's group will open for "Tribute to Miles, " featuring Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Marcus Miller. Based in New York City, Chihiro Yamanaka is poised to extend her series of successes in Japan (ten CDs, including seven on Universal/Verve, with each of her CDs reaching the #1 spot on the Japanese jazz charts) to the U.S. and Europe. Swing Journal Magazine gave Chihiro the "Best New Artist" award in 2005, and her 2009 CD, "After Hours, " won the "Japan Gold Disc Award" as the best-selling jazz disc of the year. Chihiro's 2007 CD, "Abyss, " won "Album of The Year" in the Swing Journal Magazine Readers' Poll. Chihiro's concerts and recordings include her strikingly original compositions and her unique arrangements of many of the most famous songs in the standard jazz repertoire.
