Managed Objects Advances Web 2.0 Strategy

Managed Objects announces the release of Web 2.0 Connect, a new tool that provides developers of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) access to data within Managed Objects' products for applications they build. Developers can use this platform-independent API to access the Managed Objects' data model and analytics to bring information into their own applications, which can range from Web-hosted applications to clients for portable devices to standalone desktop programs.

Web 2.0 Connect supports any programming languages that communicate over HTTP and can process XML and JSON streams, which includes languages such as Adobe Flex, .NET and Google Web Toolkit (GWT) among others. Support for these powerful and popular platforms allows for rapid development of RIAs integrated with Managed Objects products.

Web 2.0 Connect is based on the Representational State Transfer (REST) architecture, which provides a consistent and simple method of accessing system resources. Developers can use their development tools of choice, as supported protocols include REST-style URI access using XML or JSON formats, classic SOAP access (with XML-Schema/XSD), GWT RPC and AMF (Action Media Format) RPC. Each of these protocols can be mixed and matched according to development needs.

The resulting solutions are standard Web applications that can be distributed on any Java-based Web Server. This includes distribution through the Managed Objects myMO portal technology, which allows users to customize their own role-based views of Managed Objects data, as well as distribution to other platforms, such as proprietary dashboards that may already have been developed in-house. In fact, Managed Objects' R&D team used the Web 2.0 API as a key part of their development efforts for building its recently announced myCMDB application.
