SMC Ships the TigerSwitch 8-port 10/100 L2 Managed Switch

SMC Networks announces shipment of the newest in its TigerSwitch family of high-performance switches: the TigerSwitch 8-port 10/100 L2 Managed Switch with two Gigabit Combo ports (SMC6110L2). Available now, the new SMC6110L2 switch utilizes state-of-the-art single chip architecture to ensure wire-speed delivery of data packets while maintaining security through the use of SSL, SSH, and other security measures required by today's SMB networks. Providing flexible management architecture, the SMC6110L2 incorporates an IP clustering solution that facilitates grouping switches for efficiency and network extension with other SMC61-Series Fast Ethernet Switches or SMC81-Series Gigabit Switches.

The newest in SMC's 61-series Fast Ethernet TigerSwitch family of feature-rich edge switches that includes the 52-port SMC6152L2 and its PoE version, the SMC6128PL2, and the 28-port 6128L2; the SMC6110L2 adds to the flexibility of the family by offering a low-density alternative with the same features as its higher-density family members, making it great for small office networking or edge switching. Providing cost-effective Ethernet switching for SMB networks that require advanced switching features including Quality of Service (QoS) with four levels of priority, weighted fair queuing and L2/3/4 IP; SMC61-Series switches ensure smooth transmission of mission-critical data with VLANs based on frame tags or ports and spanning tree per VLAN for maximum security, and Rate Limiting for bandwidth efficiency. Comprehensive security features, including RADIUS, IEEE802.1x, SSH, SSL, TACACS+, and ACL provide enterprise-level security for SMB integrator and end use. Among the few — if not the only — small form factor managed switches to support DiffServ, all of the switches in the SMC61-series are designed to provide a flexible, extensible management architecture for growing and changing networks — from the SMB to the Enterprise. Each switch in the SMC61XX family has features that meet specific needs in the network: the SMC6128L2/6152L2 bring density and extensibility for SMB networks; the SMC6128PL2 incorporates PoE to anchor a wireless network or VoIP; and the new SMC6110L2 low-density switch, a compact, economical 8-port switch sets-up an SMB or branch office with room to grow. And, each supports clustering of as many as 32 units so that, with the current products on the market, as many as 1664 available ports can be managed as one system.

The SMC6110L2 provides QoS with four levels of priority, weighted fair-queuing and L2/3/4 IP. And, VLANs based on frame tags or ports and spanning tree per VLAN provide maximum security and bandwidth efficiency. Low-density and compact with high-bandwidth uplinks—the SMC6110L2 has two combo ports that accept 1000BASE-SX, -LX or -ZX mini GBIC transceivers.
