| ANTs Compatibility Server 1.5 Released ANTs has announced the general availability of the premier release of the ANTs Compatibility Server (ACS) version 1.5. ACS is a middleware solution that reduces the time and effort required to consolidate disparate databases. ACS 1.5 enables organizations to re-host their Sybase database applications to an Oracle database with minimal to no application changes. Fortune 100 companies, and other large organizations that are original members of the ACS Customer Consortium, have provided significant input to the development of ACS 1.5. Two are in the planning process to put ACS into production. This includes a premier hospitality company and one of the world's top financial services firms. The ANTs Compatibility Server is a middleware solution that allows application code – queries, stored procedures, and functions – from legacy databases to run natively and transparently against the new target database with minimal to no application rewriting and recompiling. Sybase applications run natively on the ANTs Compatibility Server, which also connects natively to the target Oracle database. The application operates as if it were still communicating with the original database, while the new Oracle database operates as if it were communicating with a native application. Current migration tools, such as the Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB) automate a portion of the migration with the remaining work requiring costly and time-consuming manual application rewriting. Together, OMWB and the ANTs Compatibility Server provide a fully-automated process – eliminating costly rewrites and accelerating the entire process while reducing cost. The Compatibility Server is designed to significantly reduce migration complexity, effort and cost by: - Avoiding costly application rewrites by providing continued use of Sybase application logic and native connectivity APIs; - Reducing hand-coding and manual error checking. Many man-months or even years can be required for this, and hand-coding can introduce errors and uncertainty in the process, requiring a significant QA effort to ensure correctness; - Automating the translation of all the database objects. The ANTs Compatibility Server provides support for: - A large number of Data Manipulation Language (DML) statements; - Common data definition language (DDL) statements; - Different global variables; - Isolation levels including READ UNCOMMITTED, READ COMMITTED, REPEATABLE READ and SERIALIZABLE isolation; - Compliance with Sybase and Oracle server security, database connections, table access control and restricting database access; - Simple and secure authentication modes; - Sybase system tables and procedures; - Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB) 10.1.0.4; - Different connectivity APIs including ODBC, JDBC, DB-LIB and CT-LIB. The ANTs Compatibility Server 1.5 GA release is focused on migrating Sybase ASE v.12.5.2 applications to an Oracle v.10.2 database. Server platforms supported include Microsoft Windows 32-bit (X86 and AMD) 2000, 2003 and XP, Linux 32-bit and Linux 64-bit (X86 and AMD) Red Hat Version 4.0. Future releases of ACS will enable the quick, cost-effective re-hosting of Informix, DB2, SQL Server and MySQL applications to the Oracle database, and migrations from and to other databases are also planned. ACS 1.5 is available in Development and Enterprise Editions. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Networking News :: home page |
