SIPfoundry Releases sipXecs 3.10

SIPfoundry, a not-for-profit open source community, today announced a new major release of sipXecs, its open source enterprise IP PBX unified communications solution.

sipXecs fills a critical void in the market for IP-based unified communications solutions. Based entirely on the Session Initiation Protocal (SIP), sipXecs provides a low-cost, open source and easy-to-use IP PBX solution for mid-market enterprises with up to 10,000 users.

The sipXecs effort has experienced rapidly accelerating development and market acceptance, with many new developers joining the project over the past year. After only six months since the last major release, more than 170 new features have been added to version 3.10, establishing a new development benchmark. Among these many new features are high-value items such as integration with Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange 2007; a vastly extended user control portal for user self-management; a personal auto-attendant available for every user; full localization capability with uploadable language packs, presence services, time-based and user controlled find-me / follow-me features; and a new group paging capability.

Ease of use continues to be a hallmark of the sipXecs solution. As many companies around the globe have experienced first hand, sipXecs is simple to use, installing in only a few hours. Users quickly become self-sufficient and system administration tasks can be easily managed by the company receptionist, significantly reducing IT expenses and technical training requirements. A Web management interface provides easy access to even the most complex features and setting up a new call center or personal auto-attendant is extremely intuitive. Additionally, a newly added phone auto-discovery feature, combined with true plug & play management, eliminates the complexity associated with phone system configuration.

The sipXecs solution also sets the standard in terms of the number of fully plug & play managed phones and gateways. Release 3.10 supports more than 50 different phone and gateway models from 10 different vendors including Audiocodes, Cisco, ClearONE, Grandstream, Hitachi, Polycom, Snom, LG-Nortel, IpDialog and Linksys.
