| Wireless@Beaumont Initiative Wins Australian Broadband Award The Hamilton Business District Committee announces that the Australian Telecommunications Users Group (ATUG), last night awarded its wireless@beaumont initiative with two National Awards - the prestigious National Broadband Award (Community Category), and runner up Best Communications Solution – Regional Award for 2008. The wireless@beaumont project beat strong national competition to take out the award. Wireless@beaumont is a free Wi-Fi hotzone covering almost 1 km of the CBD in Beaumont Street Hamilton, Newcastle. The RoamAD powered Wi-Fi network, is supplied by aCure Technology, the company behind the acclaimed 'metromesh' network in Perth, WA. The network, organised and maintained by The Hamilton Business District Committee, is funded by the businesses of Hamilton and various initiatives such as homepage banner advertising. After a highly competitive review process, ATUG's judges concluded that "Among several innovative National wireless solutions, 'wireless@beaumont' stands out with a solid commercial business model and programmed rollout. Skype friendly and with extended free coverage over almost 1 km of the Hamilton CBD, 'wireless@beaumont' offers a unique wireless solution, webcam support, security surveillance, information terminals and a marketing portal for the businesses of Hamilton." write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Networking News :: home page |
