| PowerFile Introduces Archive Facilitator PowerFile has introduced the Archive Facilitator, a turnkey appliance that simplifies archive by automatically discovering, classifying and moving fixed content to the Active Archive Appliance (A3), thereby freeing up capacity on expensive primary storage and significantly reducing backup burdens. Unstructured data represents 70 percent of the information being stored on expensive primary storage and up to 80 percent of that data has not been accessed or modified in more than a year. As a result, organizations are increasingly turning to active archiving to better align data with storage based on business value. PowerFile's Archive Facilitator greatly simplifies archive by offering a non-disruptive approach for discovery of fixed content on primary storage that does not require installing agents and is fully integrated with NetApp devices using File Policy (FPolicy) mechanisms and EMC Celerra devices using the Celerra FileMover API. Key features and benefits include: • Unlimited Filer Scanning – licensed only on archiving capacity, which results in significantly lower overall costs than solutions that license by total storage under management which includes both scanning and archiving capacity; • Contextual Classification – classifies and prioritizes data based on key attributes including frequency of access, last time modified, age, size, type and location; • Automated, Policy-based Archiving – simplifies data management and eliminates backup issues associated with fixed content by automatically migrating static data from primary storage to the A3 with an event-driven policy engine; • Transparent Data Access – offers flexible tag and link migration policies to handle end user and application requests for archived data by automatically recalling data or redirecting requests to the Active Archive Appliance; • Enterprise Scalability – scans and manages tens of terabytes per appliance and hundreds of terabytes per enterprise deployment; • Application Certification – certified with anti-virus and backup software (McAfee, Norton, TrendMicro, CA, Veritas, Legato, Tivoli) to smoothly integrate with existing processes and avoid unintended recalls of archived data. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Networking News :: home page |
