Force10 Networks Expands C-Series Family of Resilient Switches

Force10 Networks has introduced the C150 resilient switch and a high density 8-port line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet line card to provide enterprises with the level of reliability traditionally found in high performance data centers. As an expansion of the C-Series family of switches, the C150 delivers the reliability, network control and scalability that enterprises require to support existing business critical applications today as well as emerging applications in the future.

To increase the deployment flexibility of the C-Series family of resilient switches, Force10 introduced an 8-port, line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet line card. With the density of this line card, the C300 can now support 64 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports while the C150 supports 32. Additionally, the high density line card enables IT and data center managers to mix both fiber and copper interfaces on a single card, reducing sparing costs and providing a more flexible way for enterprises to optimize their network architectures based on specific needs.

The Force10 C150 is a four-slot switch that supports 192 line-rate Gigabit and 32 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Additionally, the C150 supports full 15.4W power over Ethernet across all 192 Gigabit Ethernet ports and features an intelligent power management system that enables per port prioritization to optimize power in the event of a failure. With support for 96 Gigabits per second per slot, the C150 also delivers non-blocking throughput to guarantee line-rate performance regardless of traffic conditions and the system capacity to double existing densities without a chassis upgrade.

As part of Force10's Reliable Networking product portfolio, the C150 runs FTOS, providing IT and data center managers with the tools they need to maximum network uptime. Inline serviceability and diagnostics enable troubleshooting without bringing down the system while configuration rollback protects against human error, eliminating one of the most common causes of unplanned network downtime. As a modular operating system, FTOS also isolates and protects individual processes such as switching, routing and management functions to ensure more predictable performance.

The Force10 Reliable Networking product portfolio delivers the reliability, network control and scalability required to build flexible networks that can adapt to emerging applications. With support for FTOS across its product portfolio, Force10 is also enabling enterprises to increase network availability and decrease total cost of ownership.
