INGENICA Launches the Redesigned UniPrint Gateway Edition

INGENICA announces the launch of the redesigned UniPrint Gateway Edition. Developed to enable organizations using Citrix and/or Microsoft Terminal Servers to easily maintain a centrally-managed printing environment, this third-party add-on printing enhancement software delivers a seamless printing experience to all end users across all platforms. This ensures that all clients, including thin, fat, local, and remote clients in 32- and 64-bit Server-based Computing environments, can quickly and reliably print to any printer - significantly increasing an organization's productivity.

Available in two versions - UniPrint Gateway Edition for Citrix and Microsoft Terminal Services, and UniPrint Gateway Terminal Server Edition for Terminal Servers only - the new offerings make it simple to manage printing on behalf of thin clients (that do not have hard drives on which to install printer drivers). Based on UniPrint's universal PDF-based printer driver, UniPrint Gateway Edition enables thin-client users to print to any local or remote printer, without the need for a client- or server-side printer driver. Additionally, since the single universal printer driver is recognized by all manufacturers' printer drivers, UniPrint Gateway Edition eliminates printer incompatibility issues by making it unnecessary to install an additional printer driver for each new printer added to the SbC environment.

By eliminating printer driver incompatibility problems for all clients, UniPrint Gateway Edition greatly increases server stability, eliminates printer-related help-desk costs, and provides immediate productivity gains as all clients can now print quickly and efficiently to any available printer - in the office, at home, or at a remote site. And, as administrators do not have to touch individual client machines to perform updates or maintenance, all offices can be supported from a single location - eliminating considerable travel time and costs. This functionality, combined with full support for distributed print servers, significantly simplifies printer management to make it easy for global enterprises to provide remote offices with efficient and reliable printing.

UniPrint's new Bi-directional Information eXchange Protocol (BIXP) provides a direct, encrypted, and event-driven channel to route the compressed PDF print data. Printer information such as name, properties, permission, and printing status are also routed through this encrypted channel. This enables UniPrint Gateway Edition to deliver enhanced printing functionality, including superior print speeds, complete end-to-end print data protection, and a real-time printer status display.

Designed to seamlessly integrate with standard Windows printing, UniPrint Gateway Edition makes it simple and intuitive for administrators to change printer properties for all users without having to use a special utility. And, as UniPrint Gateway Edition printers are created as shared network printers, users can easily locate the nearest printer by using the "Find Printer" feature in Active Directory. Other new features include support for direct printing to FTP-enabled HP and Lexmark printers distributed across LAN and WAN environments, and a "Windows Cluster Services" feature which allows for fault-tolerant print implementations to ensure printing is not halted in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Simple to install, manage, and use UniPrint Gateway Edition sends all documents to print as compressed PDF files, which are much smaller than other printing formats. This greatly reduces bandwidth consumption to make it faster and more reliable for global enterprises to print to satellite offices over VPN or WAN connections. Also, by generating PDF files from print data, UniPrint Gateway Edition enables users to instantly save, e-mail, or print documents as PDF files.
