Aurora Networks Expands SMART Media Converter Solution

Aurora Networks debuts its enhanced CWDM Ethernet transport solution featuring SMART Media Converter technology. Developed to support the growing demand for business services, Aurora’s transparent LAN solution enables cable operators to deliver Ethernet services at speeds up to 1,000 Mbps over a shared optical access network. The new FastE and GigE service module, model MC2701B and MC2710B, fits into the current 2RU SMART Media Converter chassis as well as a new patent pending space efficient CPE enclosure chassis, model CH1202B.

The CH1202B chassis can be wall mounted or rack mounted in combination providing capacity for up to four links in 1RU space. Operation is simplified because these service modules can be inserted on either end of the access link with self discovery. This rugged CPE enclosure option supports redundant powering and "dying gasp" function. Sparing is simplified with the use of small form-factor pluggable optics both on the CWDM backhaul as well as the optical handoff. Effective bandwidth can be controlled using the built-in bandwidth rate limit function or increased by pooling multiple links using Link Aggregation Control Protocol. Finally, the FastE and GigE modules support jumbo frame sizes of 1.9K and 9K bytes respectively.

Aurora’s portfolio supports up to 10 CWDM wavelengths and 40 DWDM wavelengths over 250 kilometers. It also allows up to 320 dedicated TDM FastE channels to be carried over a single fiber. In addition to FastE and GigE transport, the WDM transport supports OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 data rates.
