| SMC Ships New High-Density Clustering Managed Switches SMC Networks has announced shipment of the newest in its TigerSwitch family of switches: the TigerSwitch 10/100 Standalone 24- and 48-port 10/100 +4 Gigabit ports Managed Switches (SMC6128PL2 and SMC6152L2). Available now, the new switches pack the port density and advanced switching features to facilitate truly flexible network configuration, including clustering that facilitates grouping switches for efficiency and network extension. And, the 24-port SMC6128PL2 supports PoE for easier placement of network components and accessories like IP phones and cameras that require power. The new SMC6128PL2 and SMC6152L2 are feature-rich edge switches, designed to provide a flexible, extensible management architecture for growing and changing SMB networks. Both the 48-port SMS6152L2 and the 24-port SMC6128PL2 support clustering of as many as 32 switches, and, for added flexibility, the SMC6128PL2 has IEEE 802.3ad Power over Ethernet (PoE) that's operational on all 24 of its 10/100 ports, enabling placement of network add-ons like IP phones or cameras — without the need for extra power cables. And, their pre-installed clustering software enables grouping of as many as 32 SMC61xx switches — with the current products on the market, that's as many as 1664 available ports that can be managed as one system. Flexibility is further enhanced by 4 Gigabit uplink ports — 4 10/100/1000 and 2 or 4 SFP in combination with the 10/100/1000 ports — on each switch. Designed to handle high-bandwidth applications at speeds reaching up to 17.6Gbps with a non-blocking single chip switching architecture, the SMC6128PL2 and SMC6152L2 provide cost-effective, Ethernet switching for demanding networks that advanced switching features, including Quality of Service with four levels of priority, weighted fair queuing and L2/3/4 IP capabilities. Suited for SMB workgroup applications, the SMC6128PL2 and SMC6152L2 support VLANs based on frame tags or ports; automatic GVRP LAN registration; and Spanning Tree per VLAN provide maximum security and bandwidth efficiency. The comprehensive security features include RADIUS, IEEE802.1x, SSH, SSL, TACACS+, and ACL.
