| iTRACS Warns of Office Crime Over the Holiday Season iTRACS is warning network managers to be wary of office perils this holiday season. Helen Wadsworth UK & Ireland Sales Manager at iTRACS explained; "Each new year we see a flurry of calls from network managers who have experienced problems over the holiday season. Typically this time of year offices are left with skeleton staff who may not even be permanent employees.. For a criminal, this provides an unparalleled opportunity to steal information or hardware from the network, which can be particularly hard to trace once the holiday season is over... We would urge any organisation to review the security measures it has in place over the Christmas period toinclude network management systems that can monitor activity and highlight any event that may have taken place that is unauthorised." The warning by iTRACS follows a report by business insurance provider Zurich who advised British firms to be particularly vigilant over the Christmas period, as it is seen as a time of heightened crime risk. Over 1,000 small businesses were surveyed by Zurich, and 28 per cent said that winter, and Christmas in particular, is the time they expect to suffer some form of crime. Helen Wadsworth continues: "Whether it is someone using the office phones to make international calls, or someone stealing data, computer equipment or mobile devices, network managers need to keep and eye on what is going on and coming off their networks over this period." write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Networking News :: home page |
