Net Optics Introduces the 10/100BaseT Slim Tap

Net Optics has introduced the 10/100BaseT Slim Tap, the latest addition to its family of permanent passive access points for networks. This new, super-compact, copper-based Slim Tap has been developed to optimize rack space; up to six Slim Taps can be installed in a single rack unit panel. Also, this latest Slim Tap provides a numeric display of utilization on the front and a RS232 port on the back for initial setup and status updates. This new access is provided for configuring threshold alarms and monitoring power, link, and utilization status through the command line interface.

The 10/100BaseT Slim Tap provides the information and the passive access point you need to respond quickly to network events with zero impact on network traffic. With redundant power connections and optional auto-negotiation, the plug-and-play Slim Tap can be quickly and easily deployed by connecting front-mounted connectors. Real-time network utilization data then appears on the numeric display on the front of the Tap. Connect any major manufacturer's monitoring device, including protocol analyzers, probes, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, for non-intrusive access to full-duplex traffic as if the monitoring device was inline. All traffic, including Layer 1 and 2 errors, are sent to the monitoring device. Net Optics unique Zero Delay technology ensures that there will be no packet delay or loss of power to the tap.

The 10/100BaseT Slim Tap is the second Slim Tap design, joining the Fiber Slim Tap that was introduced in the summer of 2006. All Net Optics Taps maintain uninterrupted network access, while connected to monitoring and security devices. Net Optics Taps have zero impact on network performance, even when scalable high-density applications are in use. Any loss of power to the Tap is transparent to the network, and does not affect the flow of traffic through the Tap—thereby eliminating packet delay and data loss as potential security issues. In addition to this superior network visibility and security access, every Net Optics Tap is optimized and tested for high-performance in mission-critical networks.
