| Silverback Delivers iSNAP 2110 HBA Upgrade Silverback Systems has announced an iSNAP 2110 HBA upgrade fully supporting iSCSI Boot. Windows and Linux-based servers utilizing the iSNAP 2110 release upgrade can boot directly from iSCSI-based storage, providing the benefits of resource consolidation through use of diskless and virtualized servers, and centralized management. iSCSI Boot allows the server the operating system to be initialized from a remote storage array across a storage area network rather than from the locally attached hard disk drive. With iSCSI Boot, IT can store server images (including applications, server images, settings, and data) on the IP SAN, and administer these from a single location. Benefits of iSCSI Boot enables improved server provisioning and enhanced recoverability in face of server failure. New servers can be dynamically deployed using the images on the IP SAN, rather than reinstalling the server operating system, application setting, configuration setting, and data from backup tape. The iSCSI Boot technology will also help simplify next generation blade designs by converging SAN connectivity onto a standard Ethernet fabric in the backplane while eliminating the need for a local hard drive on individual server blades. This approach significantly reduces overall system design complexity and does not require changes to existing operating systems. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Networking News :: home page |
