Mitsubishi Electric Automation Ships Next-Generation PLC

Mitsubishi Electric Automation has introduced its FX3U Series line of next-generation SuperMicro programmable logic controllers that offer high execution speed, performance-enhancing instructions and unparalleled connectivity. The new devices, which are backward-compatible to Mitsubishi Electric’s FX2N series, are available now, including relay and transistor base units, software and most peripherals. Suited for nearly any machine control application, the FX3U delivers faster throughput, larger memory (800 percent more than the previous series), improved motion integration and broader network connectivity.

The FX3U compact PLC integrates all of these components in a single platform. What’s more, the FX3U has the most memory and fastest instruction processing time of any PLC in its class, and is the only compact PLC with a Profibus Master and a high-speed fiber optic networking card for servo amplifier control. The FX3U also features left- and right-hand buses for communication, analog I/O, and high-speed input and high-speed output modules, which further increases system flexibility and application opportunities.

Hardware Features:
* Huge 64K steps (128kB) standard user memory – 800% increase from FX2N
* 384 physical I/O mixed between local and network (256 local I/O maximum)
* Up to 300% increase in device range
* Distinct new Left Hand (LH) and improved Right Hand (RH) communication buses increase system flexibility and application range:
- The RH bus supports faster communication to existing FX2N modules
- The RH bus supports new FX3U modules (SSCNET 3, Ethernet, Profibus DP)
- The LH bus supports New Slim-Line Adapter Modules and existing FX2N adapters
* 100 kHz counting on each of six base-unit high-speed inputs
* 100 kHz pulse train output capability on each of the three base-unit transistor outputs for three-axis pulse-type motion control from a transistor base unit – without extra modules
* Low-cost, high-speed I/O adapter (RH bus) to handle pulse-type motion on relay base units
* Add up to three serial port adapters per CPU. Options include RS232, RS485 and USB
* Real-time clock embedded in the base unit (no optional cassette needed)
* Optional CPU-mounted display panel supports text messages, device monitor and data editing
* New full-function FX3U Ethernet module (FX3U-ENET)
* New Profibus DP Master Module (FX3U-64DP-M)
* New SSCNET III two-axis optical network module supports MR-J3 servos (FX3U-20SSC-H)

System Features:
* Exceptional Execution Speed - can exceed FX2N by 200-500% (200% speed increase is typical)
* Improved Network Connectivity:
- Master/peer capability: Ethernet, CC Link, CC Link/LT, Profibus DP, AS-I and FX-Net
- Local/Slave capability: Ethernet, CC Link, Profibus DP, FX-Net
* Complete OPC connectivity including Ethernet (MX OPC Server v4.10 or higher)
* Embedded commands for Mitsubishi Electric Freqrol inverters (VFDs)
* Reference SFM data devices directly in programs (eliminates pre/post data handling)
* FX3U Intelligent (SF) modules support direct CPU access for improved ease-of-use:
- Software Configuration Utilities (like many advanced platforms)
- Retains parameter access in the logic program to facilitate on-the-fly setup changes
* Improved ASCII string handling features
* Improved floating point math features
* Instruction set approximates Q-Series to facilitate migration.
