New Intelligent Substation Gateway by Cybectec

Cybectec says they have launched the SMP 16/SG Intelligent Substation Gateway. The latest offspring from Cybectec's line of SMP Substation Gateways, the SMP 16/SG supports all the basic functions of the field-proven SMP gateway, plus advanced functions that take it beyond basic protocol translation and data concentration.

With up to 48 serial ports in its 3U enclosure, a GPS clock and an optional Ethernet switch, the SMP 16/SG becomes the suitable single point of access to all substation equipment. SCADAs, control centers and users alike can now get all their data from one source or easily passthrough to the device. For larger substations, the SMP 16/SG supports cascading configurations, where one SMP 16/SG becomes master to the other SMP 16/SG, multiplying the number of ports and connections available.

New in the SMP 16/SG are NERC CIP-compliant cyber-security features that create the much-needed electronic security perimeter around substation equipment. The SMP 16/SG also comes with several improvements, including remote access services via dial-up, a comprehensive suite of tools, and enhanced usability.

The SMP 16/SG adds automation capabilities to substations. Its automation functions and SoftPLC workbench can be used to implement automated controls, as simple as opening or closing relays or as complex as prioritizing feeder reconnection after an outage.

Thanks to its extensive protocol translation and data concentration capacities, the SMP 16/SG Intelligent Substation Gateway can bring non-operational data (NODA) to the enterprise level. NODA can be used to optimize maintenance, extend equipment life and even diagnose faults.
