NetMotion Wireless Releases New Version of Mobility XE Mobile VPN

NetMotion Wireless has announced general availability of Mobility XE 7.0. In response to requests from large enterprise customers and prospects, the release includes major enhancements to security, scalability and mobile device support. Specifically, Mobility XE 7.0 includes Microsoft-certified support for Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones, RSA-certified integration of SecurID two-factor authentication and an increase in scalability that results in support for deployments of up to 35.000 mobile workers.

As part of this release, Mobility XE 7.0 achieved certification through Microsoft's Mobile2Market program, becoming the first and only VPN to be certified by Microsoft as a "Designed for Windows Mobile" solution for Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone. Currently available on devices such as the Motorola Q, Cingular 2125 and T-Mobile SDA, Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone includes features such as Wi-Fi support and larger screen resolutions. Mobility XE now fully supports both Smartphone and Pocket PC versions of Windows Mobile 5.0 with a Mobile VPN solution that offers all the same functionality, security and integrated management enjoyed by laptop users.

By adding support for Windows Mobile 5 Smartphones, Mobility XE enables enterprises to roll out mission-critical applications to the growing number of users of these mobile devices. They can also apply application access and usage policies to these workers and manage Smartphone devices alongside their laptops, tablets and Pocket PC devices from a single, centralized management console.

Security enhancements in Mobility XE version 7.0 include two new types of authentication methods. In a technology partnership with RSA Security, NetMotion Wireless integrated support for RSA SecurID two-factor authentication, including support for hardware and software authenticators such as key fobs, PINpads, software tokens, USB and Smart Card authenticators. As a result of this integration, the company achieved RSA Secured certification. RSA SecurID support is available on all supported Mobility platforms.

In addition, Mobility XE's array of authentication options has been expanded to include the Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol (PEAP). This extends authentication to LDAP databases, as well as providing support for RADIUS password aging / expiration functionality and identity hiding. PEAP also enables the Mobility XE client to establish a mutually authenticated, secure EAP tunnel with the enterprise RADIUS server.

To meet demand from large enterprises, Mobility XE 7.0 now supports up to 15.000 simultaneous users - three times more than previous versions. Based on typical mobile worker usage patterns, this increase in scalability can support companies with more than 35.000 mobile workers.
