Ixia Announces Optixia XM Test System and Optixia XM12 Chassis

Ixia has introduced the next addition to its Optixia product line - the Optixia XM test system and Optixia XM12 chassis. With ultra-high Ethernet port density - 144 GbE or 36 - 10 GbE ports per 17.5 inch tall chassis. To meet the increasing demands of equipment vendors producing and service providers deploying Ethernet networks worldwide, the Optixia XM evolves Ixia's award-winning Optixia product line while maintaining backward compatibility with previous Optixia systems and software to ease customer migration.

An April report from industry research firm Infonetics confirms massive demand for Ethernet in corporate and consumer networks. In the face of fast growing network traffic demands, service providers worldwide are moving to Ethernet due to its ubiquity, cost advantages, and ease of deployment. The new Optixia XM12 addresses the growing needs of equipment manufacturers and service providers to execute high performance, high density testing of Ethernet-based network equipment for rollout into metro networks. The Optixia XM12's high density ultimately benefits users by reducing lab space for test equipment, lowering power requirements, and simplifying management of testing resources - all contributing to lowering testing implementation costs.

In addition to high density Ethernet, the Optixia XM system supports the common wide area network interfaces in use today, enabling carriers to test their current infrastructure as they migrate to pure IP over Ethernet. The Optixia XM12 chassis supports all the interface and application-specific modules available today on the Optixia X16 chassis through use of an adapter module. These include OC-3/12/48/192 POS, OC-3/12 ATM, Power over Ethernet, the Encryption Load Module for IPSec, and the Application Load Module for high performance application layer traffic. Together, these modules provide the resources needed for executing comprehensive Real World Traffic testing - encompassing data, signalling, voice, video, and application traffic - from Layers 2-7 in a single test platform.

The ultimate demand placed on IP performance test systems today comes from the need to test different application types together to gain a true understanding of how converged networks - supporting data, video, and VoIP services - will respond in varying conditions. The Optixia XM is optimized for the high performance requirements of such multi-services testing with an increased speed backplane, testing-optimized software environment, and a processor on every network interface port. This architecture delivers a platform for comprehensive performance and functional testing from Layer 2-7 using Ixia's Aptixia family of test applications.
