| Foundry's FastIron GS Series Family of Compact Edge Switches Foundry Networks has introduced the FastIron GS Series family of compact edge switches. The FastIron GS Series line of compact switches is a new generation of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches designed for cost- effective and high-performance convergence at the network's edge. This product family is ideal for organizations looking for the convenience and scaling benefits of a compact switch in a stackable form with the option to expand to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10-GE) for high capacity connectivity to the network backbone. Featuring modular upgradeability for 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and redundant power in a 1.5U high form, the FastIron GS Series provides enterprise organizations with a flexible and reliable solution for enabling wireless LAN, Voice over IP (VoIP) and high-speed networking at the network edge. The trend towards network convergence is driving the need for high availability solutions. The FastIron GS Series features 1+1 power redundancy using hot-swappable and field replaceable power modules that install into the rear of the unit. Additionally, the FastIron GS 648P-POE support up to 48 10/100/1000 Mbps Class 3 PoE ports - the highest Class 3 PoE port density in its class. An optional second power supply may be ordered for redundancy and higher powered POE requirements.
