HP's gateway declared 'Best NAS Killer'

InfoWorld has proclaimed the HP Storage Works Enterprise File Services Clustered Gateway (EFS-CG) with PolyServe Matrix Server software the "Best NAS Killer" in the publication's 2006 Technology of the Year Awards, PolyServe, Inc. announced today. "Integrated with HP's clustered gateway, PolyServe's shared data clustering software offers file serving performance, availability and price advantages that leave traditional NAS gasping for air, " said Mike Stankey, president and CEO of PolyServe. "We are honored that InfoWorld has validated the HP-PolyServe solution as the 'Best NAS Killer.'"

As InfoWorld senior analyst Mario Apicella noted in his product review of EFS-CG with Matrix Server, "I see many interesting products, but the combination of Hewlett-Packard's clustered hardware and PolyServe Matrix Server offers a unique combination of tools that can pull out the fastest performance and superior reliability from your SAN as well as your servers."

An OEM agreement between PolyServe and HP integrates PolyServe's advanced cluster file system and storage virtualization software into the HP Enterprise File Services Clustered Gateway. Available worldwide through HP's direct sales force and channel partners, the HP EFS Clustered Gateway pairs PolyServe clustering software with HP ProLiant DL380 servers to form a high-performance, low-cost, and fault-tolerant alternative to traditional NAS appliances.

PolyServe's software-centric file serving approach aggregates Intel-architecture and Linux- and Windows-based servers and networked storage to form a scalable, fault-tolerant, and manageable file serving platform for both commercial data center and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. The solution integrates the industry leading symmetric cluster file system, storage virtualization software, Network File System (NFS) and CIFS support, and high availability services into a single point of management for modularly scalable throughput and storage capacity management.
