New citation tracker for researchers

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, January 24 -- Scopus Introduces a New User-Friendly Way to Find and Evaluate Research Information Using Citation Data. Scopus, the world's largest abstract and citation database of research information and quality Web sources, today announced the Scopus Citation Tracker, a new feature available to all subscribers that enables researchers to easily evaluate research using citation data. The Scopus Citation Tracker empowers researchers and librarians by providing them with a user-friendly way to more easily and efficiently check and track citation data for the purposes of gaining intelligence about articles, authors, their own published work and research trends.

For decades citation data has been recognized as a cornerstone for evaluating the importance or influence of specific research. The result of intensive development with librarians and researchers, the Scopus Citation Tracker offers at-a-glance intelligence about the influence of a set of articles, an author or group of authors over time, so users can quickly spot trends. Users can control the specific articles and date ranges they want to evaluate and easily navigate through the cited and citing literature using a visual table of citations broken down by article and chronology.

"Users told us they wanted to move away from pre-defined metrics, and analyze what's going on at the level of the individual author or article, " said Amanda Spiteri, product marketing director at Elsevier. "Scopus now provides them with a tool where they themselves can select what to analyze in terms of subject area, named individuals and over which time period - all at the touch of a button and with the most up to date information."

The Scopus Citation Tracker is the first and only product to give an on-the-spot overview of citation data for any set of articles over a date range selected by the user. The Scopus Citation Tracker makes it quick and easy for users to:

- Find the most highly cited authors in a field

- Find and track hot topics in specific subject areas

- Check the most up-to-date citation data on specific authors and articles

- Track and evaluate research trends.

"The new citation tool from Scopus offers broad functionality and quick and easy-to-use access, " said Nejc Jakopin, chair of the strategic management department at the Mercator School of Management at the University of Duisburg-Essen. "It is ideal for researchers interested in finding out more about their own colleagues, journals, and research areas, and for tracking citation influence."
