3PAR and FalconStor announce Virtual Tape Library

3PAR, the leading provider of Utility Storage, and FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software, today announced Utility Virtual Tape Library (VTL), the industry's first utility- class virtual tape library solution. Utility VTL allows customers to scale and consolidate all of their online, nearline and VTL application data onto a single platform while delivering appropriate service levels and maximizing cost-effectiveness for each tier. The plug-and-play FalconStor VTL solution, coupled with simple, massively scalable, and fully-tiered Utility Storage from 3PAR, delivers a powerful and efficient combination. The companies also announced a technical alliance to ensure that rigorous interoperability and availability tests are conducted between the 3PAR InServ(R) Storage Server and FalconStor VTL.

"FalconStor's VirtualTape Library maximizes the higher performance provided by disk-based storage technology over tape, " said Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates. "Using 3PAR's Utility Storage as the underlying disk media, Utility VTL allows customers to manage all their storage tiers, including VTL, within a single fully-tiered environment. The combined high performance, simple installation and easy management makes for a highly efficient storage operation."

With Utility VTL, customers avoid the costs and complexity of managing and scaling multiple distinct systems -- each with unique price/performance attributes -- to meet their broad application data service levels, including VTL. Utility VTL is simple, efficient and scalable, and offers unique advantages that are ideal for today's utility computing environments:

* Simple -- Self-managing Utility Storage with easy-to-deploy FalconStor VTL mean easy access to and administration of a consolidated, VTL-inclusive environment.
* Efficient -- FalconStor VTL, in connection with high performance Utility Storage, provides the smallest possible backup windows and fastest restoration periods, and extends existing tape library resources across growing enterprise data.
* Scalable -- Fully tiered, highly scalable Utility Storage yields the fewest possible devices and maximum cost optimization over time.

"Customers quickly recognize that they can enjoy tremendous cost benefits by consolidating with 3PAR Utility Storage, " said David Scott, President and Chief Executive Officer of 3PAR. "As a result, they are seeking to implement additional storage initiatives such as virtual tape library on this powerful platform. Our relationship with FalconStor allows our joint customers to extend Utility Storage to achieve additional disk-based data protection."

"FalconStor VTL has been widely accepted in the industry, as it allows for high-speed backup and restore, " said ReiJane Huai, Chairman and CEO of FalconStor Software. "The FalconStor and 3PAR solution enables our joint customers to simply and efficiently consolidate their virtual tape backups onto a single, scalable, tiered-storage platform."

The 3PAR and FalconStor alliance includes a cooperative support agreement to ensure that customers can confidently deploy the combined products for their demanding data center and utility computing initiatives. The alliance also includes a joint marketing agreement that enables 3PAR and FalconStor to cooperatively educate customers on the numerous benefits of Utility VTL.

The certified 3PAR-FalconStor joint offering will be available in the first quarter of 2006 from the respective companies and their channel partners worldwide.
