Real-Time Data Analysis From StratBridge

The Boston Celtics are using data analytics technology from StratBridge to increase attendance and revenue for every home game at the TD BankNorth Garden. StratBridge.net provides Celtics sales executives a capability no other NBA team has -- the ability to monitor the pulse of consumer demand through the real-time display of sold and available seating in the entire arena. This allows the team to develop promotions and sales strategies on the fly to fill seats, as well as conduct revenue analyses based on sales trends.

"Nearly all of our variable business is ticket sales, and ticket sales are dynamic, " said Daryl Morey, senior vice president of operations and information for the Celtics. "Basing sales strategies and revenue projections on one-time snapshots that take days to compile at a summary level isn't effective. StratBridge.net gives us the on-demand diligence to make sound decisions that help boost attendance and revenue."

A 40-inch plasma screen TV located in the Celtics sales nerve center displays an image of the arena seating chart with different color blocks indicating up-to-the-minute availability and revenue for home games throughout the season. Sales executives access this information via their desktops to study recent buying trends, identify sections that aren't selling well, and pinpoint targeted promotions.

Delivering a complete picture

Built on Microsoft's .NET Web services platform, StratBridge.net simplifies in-depth data analysis by automating once tedious steps and producing detailed reports with just a few mouse clicks. Unlike other data reproduction tools that force users to interpret complex charts, StratBridge.net delivers complete analyses via familiar Microsoft formats including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Adobe .PDF files.

"We knew we needed to access the valuable information that our attendance and sales data contained, but we didn't know how we would do it, " said Morey. "After evaluating several options, we chose StratBridge.net because it provided the flexibility to customize how we view the data, and the functionality to help us make good business decisions -- all in an affordable package."

Shawn Sullivan, Celtics vice president of ticket sales, said, "It has become indispensable to our business."

The software culls data from a variety of internal and external sources, regardless of original format, and displays it instantly so that managers can make vital business decisions quickly to stay competitive in the market. Companies such as the big four professional services firms, asset managers, and major global corporations in data-intensive industries including financial services, business consulting and consumer products are increasingly using StratBridge.net to better understand the fundamental information that makes their businesses run.

"Data is the lifeblood of any company, and understanding how to get the most value from it has been a struggle for decades, " said StratBridge Founder and CEO Matt Marolda. "The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful teams in the NBA because of the franchise's rich history, its loyal fans, and savvy ownership. Using StratBridge.net to boost sales will continue to make the Celtics a model professional sports team."
