Lucent VPN Firewall Brick advanced security features

Lucent Technologies announced that the Lucent VPN Firewall Brick Portfolio successfully provided advanced security features for the backbone network at the site of Japan's Expo 2005 Aichi, which was held in Aichi prefecture from March 25, 2005 through September 25, 2005.

During this world exposition -- in which 121 countries and 4 international organizations participated --- the Lucent VPN Firewall Brick Portfolio demonstrated its exceptional security capabilities, helping maintain the stability of the network in the face of denial of service attacks and serving as the key interconnection point between the wide variety of networks that were linked together throughout the Expo site.

"Lucent's carrier-class security product portfolio provided exceptional support for the IT operations at this prestigious international event, Expo 2005 Aichi, " said Sadayuki Ishii, system leader of NKD (a joint venture of Nippon Telegraph And Telephone West Corporation, KDDI Corporation, and Dentsu Inc.), which engineered, built, and operated the network. "We greatly valued the Lucent Brick for its virtual firewall capability, its ease of introduction and unified operation/management capabilities, all of which exceeded our expectations."

The system -- based on the Lucent VPN Firewall Brick1100 and 500 products as well as the Lucent Security Management Server (LSMS) -- were deployed by Sumisho Computer Systems Corporation, a Lucent Sales Business Partner. The Brick 1100 and 500 are designed to support large-scale enterprise network deployment, and helped manage the processing of large volumes of traffic on the Expo's backbone network. The LSMS was deployed in the Expo's network monitoring center to provide unified remote management of Brick1100 and 500 products.

The Lucent VPN Firewall Brick product offers carrier-class reliability and security features, and the Lucent Security Management Server provides security management capabilities for all phases of network deployment, from VPN firewall installation to operation, management, and reporting.

"It is a great honor that our security products made a significant contribution to the network of Expo 2005 Aichi, and helped ensure the success of this important event, " said Satoshi Fujita, president of Lucent Technologies Japan. "For today's enterprise networks, ensuring network security is one of the biggest concerns. The high reliability and ease-of-use offered by Lucent's security products make them ideal for enterprises seeking to offer high security on their networks at relatively low cost."

Running on a unique, secure operating system developed by Bell Labs, the Lucent VPN Firewall Brick portfolio is virtually impenetrable to hackers and its advanced safeguards protect against denial-of-service attacks, while delivering high-speed content security and premium authentication services.
