The Pennsylvania University and TelCove partner on Fiber Build

The Pennsylvania State University and TelCove, a leading provider of business critical telecommunications services to enterprise customers and carriers, have partnered on a joint fiber build between Penn State's University Park campus at State College and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC).

The PSC operates the Three Rivers Optical Exchange, a high-performance network hub through which Penn State gains Internet2 and commodity Internet access. This same network hub will now provide connection to a new Higher Education research network, the National LambdaRail. The joint build project will cover approximately 186 miles between State College and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Already a recognized research powerhouse, Penn State's high-speed fiber connectivity to the National LambdaRail will enable the University to test and run new bandwidth-intensive applications and technologies to maintain its leading edge.

"The National LambdaRail network is an optical infrastructure based network which will provide dedicated research bandwidth, " said J. Gary Augustson, Penn State's Vice Provost for Information Technology. "We are pleased to work with Telcove to create this LambdaRail connection for the University which will provide tremendous benefit to many of Penn State's departments and programs."

"This joint build with Penn State University demonstrates TelCove's ongoing commitment to this premiere customer, " said Bob Guth, President and Chief Executive Officer of TelCove. "This high-speed link between State College and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center enhances the core network infrastructure needed to keep Pennsylvania's educational institutions at the leading edge."

The Pennsylvania State University is continually striving to provide its students, faculty, and staff with cutting-edge technologies. Today's announcement further enhances this strong commitment to excellence, with TelCove and Penn State teaming up to deliver this next-generation network infrastructure.
