IOGEAR Replaces Cables with Bluetooth Serial Adapter

Professionals in the industrial and medical fields can now eliminate tangled cables by transferring data to and from Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as POS terminals, bar code scanners and serial based printers, with the launch of IOGEAR's new Bluetooth Serial Adapter. The adapter is a compact device that connects to a standard 9-pin serial port to communicate with another Bluetooth enabled device.

When used in combination with other Bluetooth-enabled products, IOGEAR's Bluetooth Serial Adapter replaces traditional serial cables in products such as laptop computers, industrial data collection systems and medical monitoring equipment. With a range up to 330 feet, users can communicate with serial devices, well beyond the reach of conventional cables.

"Hospitals, laboratories and manufacturing facilities are often overrun by a web of cables. It is essential to their jobs that they are able to send and receive critical information immediately from any location, " said Miranda Su, vice president of sales and marketing at IOGEAR Inc. "With our Bluetooth Serial Adapter, users can quickly, easily and affordably move to wireless communications using existing equipment."

IOGEAR's product is priced at $99.95 (MSRP) and is available immediately from all major catalog resellers, online resellers and selected retail outlets. With no software required, the Bluetooth Serial Adapter is a true plug-n-play solution. All users need to do is to insert the serial adapter in serial RS-232 equipment with a DB-9 connection. It is fully compliant with Bluetooth 1.1 specifications and supports authentication and encryption.
