Fingerprint Authentication for Credit Unions

Digital Persona, Inc., the leading provider of biometric authentication solutions for enterprise networks and commercial applications, today detailed its work with several credit unions including Oklahoma-based Allegiance Credit Union, Portland, Oregon-based Advantis Credit Union and Southern California's Telesis Community Credit Union to securely authenticate members, enhance network security, alleviate time consuming password management issues and boost employee productivity at their institutions.

With the use of Digital Persona's biometric technology, credit union members now have solutions that expedite their banking needs. Additionally, credit unions -- faced with numerous and time consuming compliance processes -- are able to securely protect access to the funds under their management utilizing Digital Persona solutions. Digital Persona's fingerprint-based authentication systems have biometrically registered users throughout Allegiance, Advantis and Telesis Community Credit Unions.

"Digital Persona provides the authentication solutions which address the increasing needs of credit unions, faced with the same security, compliance and identification issues found throughout the banking industry, " said Fabio Righi, president & CEO of Digital Persona. "Using Digital Persona's fingerprint-based biometric solutions credit unions are now expeditiously authenticating users and consistently identifying members."

Telesis Community Credit Union wanted to enhance employee productivity and network security at desktops throughout the $480 million credit union which led to the deployment of Digital Persona's fingerprint recognition solutions. Digital Persona's fingerprint-based authentication also alleviated the password reset issues that IT often had to address.

"Previously Telesis couldn't get its employees to maintain strong and secure passwords, and those that did often forgot them, so the help desk would have to reset them, " said Telesis CIO Phil Fowler. "To ensure more reliable secure network and application access, we decided to use a biometric system provided by Digital Persona's fingerprint system that eliminates the need for user IDs and passwords."

Allegiance Credit Union worked with BioTran, a Digital Persona systems integrator, to deploy a system that currently enables its members and employees across Oklahoma to securely and conveniently access Allegiance records and funds.

"Doing business with Allegiance has always been about convenience, " said Amy Petty, Vice President of Operations at Allegiance Credit Union. "With the use of Digital Persona's fingerprint authentication solutions, Allegiance has been able to streamline productivity and limit issues concerning identification and password access to our systems."

In Portland, Oregon a merger of credit unions, which created Advantis Credit Union, brought to light the convenience and security that Digital Persona fingerprint readers were providing members.

"We recognized the obvious benefits that other credit unions were receiving by incorporating Digital Persona's fingerprint authentication solutions, " said David Mitchell, MCSE Network Administrator at Advantis Credit Union. "As Advantis Credit Union came into existence due to mergers, it became clear that we should adapt to the practice and purchase the Digital Persona solutions for ourselves as well."

As authentication, identity management and compliance become more of a concern to financial institutions and consumers, added security methods, such as biometric fingerprint-based recognition, are reaching the retail banking level. The convenience and speed offered by Digital Persona fingerprint-based biometric technology allows banking concerns the authentication solutions they need. In the meantime, the credit union community is leading the way with users and members being authenticated to networks, applications, Web sites and teller lines with a simple and secure touch of a finger.
