Time Warner Telecom facilitates rapid data delivery

Time Warner Telecom Inc., a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, announced it has signed a three-year contract to provide private IP network services to Ovation Data Services, Inc., a Houston-based company specializing in digital data management.

"The oil and gas industry has thousands of large seismic data sets, many worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, sitting in remote storage locations, " said Gregory Servos, president and COO of Ovation Data Services. "Working with Time Warner Telecom, we are now able to help many companies in this industry easily and quickly gain access to these files and in many cases, book revenue instantly. What's more, we are able to do this securely and reliably, two things that are of paramount importance in the oil and gas industry."

Ovation is a charter member of the Geophysical Private Access Connection Service (GEO-PACS), a new service dedicated to promoting secure information transfers among oil and gas companies and their vendors or customers. Under the agreement, Time Warner Telecom will deliver the private IP network Ovation needs to facilitate the transport of critical geophysical data on demand.

Specifically, Time Warner Telecom is providing Ovation with access to multiple Gigabit Ethernet circuits, in addition to Ethernet Internet Service and local and long distance voice services using voice over IP connections. As additional oil and gas companies join GEO-PACS, Time Warner Telecom will provide them with similar capabilities by building fiber to each of their locations.

The biggest advantage of GEO-PACS membership is that it enables oil and gas companies to experience the benefits of a high-speed network without the burden of a long-term contract, as Time Warner Telecom will provide bandwidth on an as-needed basis.

Other advantages of GEO-PACS include reduced delay in accessing and using data, reduction of capital expense for data processing and storage, secure data back-up, the ability to do business with multiple companies using secure private connections and the ability to set up less costly IP-VPN with smaller, less frequent data users.

"All types of industries are being transformed by our fast, reliable and secure networks, and the oil and gas industry is no exception, " said Darin Cook, General Manager for Time Warner Telecom in Houston. "Not only is Time Warner Telecom helping its direct customer -- Ovation Data Services -- improve its business, but it is also helping its customer's customers expand their reach and drive revenue."
