Out now - Paul Shapiro's new single, "Project 26"

This call-to-action single, "Project 26, " is just in from Paul Shapiro and features his 80s punk-funk band Foreign Legion with original bandmates Steven Bernstein, William Brown, and Thomas Doncker, along with longtime collaborators Cilla Owens, Tony Lewis, and Gary Foote.

Here's what Paul says about the single:

Things have gotten really bleak and we need to work together to get this country back on track. Our first chance are the midterms in 2026. I'm hoping this song helps people get busy.

The sound I was hearing for this brought me back to my '80s punk funk band Foreign Legion. I called original bandmates Steven Bernstein, William Brown and Tomas Doncker, along with longtime collaborators Cilla Owens, Tony Lewis and Gary Foote. Time for a new raw and real Foreign Legion track, PROJECT 26.

We recorded it live at Grammy-winning producer Bassy Bob Brockmann's studio in Brooklyn. John Rynski, long-time New York creative, designed the cover.

Steven Bernstein's post about Foreign Legion says it better than me:

It was a great band... very of its time, Grimy off kilter east village punk funk inspired by the sounds and culture all around us… we played CBGBs, Danceteria, A7, Pyramid Club and many places that are too hazy to recall.. With the addition of Tomas Doncker, Zachary Alford and Jerome Smith in the mid 80s the band definitely moved to the funk side of the punk.. and many more great musicians came through... anyway... Paul wrote a new Foreign Legion anthem in response to the current state of affairs..and he "got the band back together"... I hope you enjoy this as much as we all did.....maybe we can get the 1:30 am spot at A7 again!
