| The Secret Trio's Macedonian clarinetist, Armenian oud player, and Turkish kanun player to Release New Album: Old Friends With Old Friends, The Secret Trio continues its mission of uniting people with the common language of music. As with their previous studio recordings (Soundscapes, Three of Us and Coexist), they use their diverse experience to blend eastern micro-tonal modes and complex time signatures with western harmony and form to create a refreshingly new sonic palette. Ismail Lumanovski, born in Macedonia in 1984, has become one of the most sought-after clarinetists in the world, performing as a featured classical soloist with symphonic orchestras, as well as appearing in major world music festivals. His versatility and virtuosity extend to all genres of music and improvisation. Tamer Pınarbaşı, born in Turkey in 1970, has created his own technique for the ancient instrument, kanun. This new 10-fingered approach, combined with his knowledge of both harmony and makams (modes), provide the Trio with unprecedented freedom to explore and arrange a great variety of musical styles and idioms. Ara Dinkjian, an Armenian born in the USA in 1958, is best known as a composer of songs which have been sung in 16 different languages. He has also developed a very personal style and sound on his instrument, the oud. While he occasionally joins Tamer and Ismail on some virtuosic passages, he is quite content to provide bass, chords, counterpoint, and rhythm for the group. The Secret Trio Tamer and Ara met in 1996, and they both met Ismail in 2005. Their mutual admiration soon developed into a deep friendship which has continued to grow. Indeed, upon experiencing The Secret Trio in concert, most witnesses the obvious joy the three members exude in being and playing together. Like old friends. - SINGLE: Dik Halay/Diyarbekir Halay Halay is the traditional folk dance of Anatolia, with each region having its own step and melodic variations.
