David Bailis has consistently uplifted the music of other artists from a wide range of genres, ranging from hip hop to funk. For his own projects, he creates a very original style of modern jazz that is thoughtful, cinematic, unpredictable, and quietly inventive while also expressing plenty of fire.

Bailis follows up on his 2024 album Tree Of Life with his fourth release, Running Through My Mind. The guitarist leads a quintet also featuring altoist Caroline Davis, keyboardist Andrew Links, bassist Jordan Scannella, and drummer Kenneth Salters. While Bailis is often in the lead and there are individual solos, one of the most memorable aspects to this release is the very individual group sound which has the five musicians blending together in the electric ensemble as one.

Running Through My Mind, a title that pays tribute to David Bailis' love of running, features six of his originals plus a song apiece by Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway. "Ordinary Trash" has the group creating a colorful soundscape and makes it obvious from the start that Bailis has his own sound on guitar. "Angles" is a peaceful exploration with soothing playing from the musicians. In addition to the fluent guitar playing, "Telepathy" has keyboardist Links playing some ideas in his upper register that give the music an otherworldly feel. "Star Sign" is conversational and a bit whimsical (almost as if Bailis is speaking directly to the listener), "Zenith" is a charming jazz waltz and the colorful "Comet" is often stormy. In addition, Bailis performs tasteful solo guitar renditions of Stevie Wonder's "Joy Inside My Tears" and Donnie Hathaway's "Jealous Guy."

Originally from Boston, David Bailis is based in Brooklyn. Since graduating from the Berklee College Of Music, he has appeared in many settings including as a member of the electro funk band Pimps Of Joytime, and with John Forte (singer/emcee and Fugees alum), saxophonist Chris Speed, Philip Glass, and Sierra Leone's hiphop superstar Bajah & the Dry Eye Crew. As a leader he has had success with his first three solo albums: Firebrand, 3DDB3 and Tree Of Life. Bailis co-leads Walk Talk with singer/percussionist Mayteana Morales and performs his own music with his own band in many New York clubs.

In addition, David Bailis (a 2:53 marathoner, triathlete, and a coach) has won many awards and medals for his running. A big believer in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, his blog and podcast Tourganic features his thoughts on surviving and training while on the road. Playing creative music and running have several aspects in common as the guitarist says: "The title of the album is a nod to my musical ideas and my love of running, representing discipline, freedom, daily practice, dedication, exploration, seeking, and purpose."

Running Through My Mind is a major step forward for David Bailis who continues to develop as a highly individual and inventive guitarist and composer.
