| The Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy Returns From 18 to 24 August, the "Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy" once again welcomes the world's top young jazz talents to Hamburg. 16 promising young jazz musicians will collaborate with internationally renowned mentors to develop their own compositions and refine their artistic voice. The culmination of this intensive week of coaching and jam sessions will be a joint final concert in the Grand Hall on 24 August, streamed live in the Elbphilharmonie Mediathek. This year's artistic director is New York saxophonist Donny McCaslin. Other mentors include Gerald Clayton and Django Bates (piano/keyboards), Jorge Roeder and Allison Miller (bass and drums) and Jen Shyu (vocals). On 19 August, the six established jazz musicians will discuss career paths in times of crisis, while another public talk on 21 August will address the highly topical issue of mental health in music, particularly relevant for the younger generation. Tickets for all events are available at www.elbphilharmonie.de. The "Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy" offers a special prospect for emerging artists: The chance to stand on the big stage of the Elbphilharmonie for the first time and learn from jazz greats such as Donny McCaslin, famous far beyond the jazz scene with his performances on David Bowie's last album "Blackstar". 16 young talents from South Africa, Brazil, the USA, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Denmark, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Germany will come together for one week to hone their musical skills. Now in its third edition, this popular programme continues to nurture young talent aged 18 to 30, most of whom are meeting each other for the first time and are keen to work together. Previous mentors have included top names such as Yaron Herman, Anat Cohen, Theo Croker, Sullivan Fortner, Melissa Aldana, Ziv Ravitz, Julia Hülsmann and Clarice Assad. The Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy is generously supported by the Dr. E. A. Langner Foundation. write your comments about the article :: © 2025 Jazz News :: home page |
