Trumpeter Rogers, trombonist Fahn, and particularly drummer/producer Bill Goodwin - have each had close connections with the acclaimed trumpeter/composer Tom Harrell during their careers. Collectively, they'll be proudly presenting two sets of Harrell's classic compositions at the iconic Deer Head Inn with an outstanding quintet, including pianist Jon Ballantyne and bassist Adrian Moring.

NYC veteran jazz trumpeter Chris Rogers' connection with Tom Harrell began at a 1979 rehearsal when as a 17-year old, he impressed and befriended his idol. Soon after that, Tom was sending Chris around on various gigs and rehearsals, including with Mel Lewis & The Vanguard Orchestra and George Russell's band. In 1981 Harrell recommended Chris to replace him as the primary trumpet soloist with Gerry Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band, a gig that lasted for 5 years including many jazz festivals and world tours. On the heels of the Mulligan experience, Rogers went on to become a featured soloist with the bands of Buddy Rich, Mongo Santamaria, Bob Moses, Eddie Palmieri, Hilton Ruiz, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and many more. Chris' debut album "Voyage Home" (Art of Life Records) received 4.5 stars from DOWNBEAT and featured the late, great saxophonist Michael Brecker.

Valve trombone specialist Mike Fahn has been a featured soloist with many greats including Maynard Ferguson, Kenny Wheeler, Michael Brecker's Quindectet, and has multiple recordings as a bandleader to his name. His affinity for the valve trombone (in addition to the slide), has been influenced greatly by trumpet players such as Harrell and the late great Woody Shaw.

Amazingly in 1999/2000, both Rogers and Fahn became charter members of the Tom Harrell Big Band, including week-long stints at The Village Vanguard and The Iridium;
and recording on Harrell's Grammy-nominated "Time's Mirror" album. (Rogers' big band chart on Harrell's "The Water's Edge" was the only non-Harrell arrangement performed by the band!)
Since that time, Mike and Chris have performed "The Music of Tom Harrell" at multiple venues and are now excited to feature special guest Bill Goodwin on drums.

special Guest Bill Goodwin's connections with Harrell are well documented and date all the way back to Tom's arrival in New York in the mid-1970's. Chief among their many collaborations are their joint membership in the Phil Woods Quintet for many years; and Bill's invaluable role as record-producer for several of Tom's outstanding albums, including "Stories" (1988) and "Sail Away" (1989).

Please join us as Rogers, Fahn and Goodwin masterfully interpret many of Harrell's classic compositions including "Sail Away", "The Water's Edge", "Terristris", "Little Dancer", "Buffalo Wings" and more!
