Eva Novoa Reunites with Bassist Drew Gress and Drummer Devin Gray to Bring Us Another Blazing Interplay Banger - Release date: August 1st via 577 Records

Novoa / Gress / Grey Trio, Vol. 2 is the respite we all needed from the world's hubbub, a replenishing oasis in a bustling landscape of bills, deadlines, and breaking news. Acclaimed Brooklyn-based pianist Eva Novoa has reunited with drummer Devin Gray and bassist and modular synth player Drew Gress to bring us another 577 Records gem – and she's bringing back the gongs. Believe it or not, it's even more experimental than Vol. 1!

The trio's opening piece, Vogel, is meant to be a tribute to birds and their extraordinary migratory trips around our planet – as well as a subtle homage to the late bass legend Charlie Haden. The track rises to an epic level of pleasure thanks to bountiful improvisation, which opens a window to free interplay where the piano and trio engage in lively, expressive dialogue. Novoa says she explores the piano trio format as chamber music, illuminating each instrument's unique voice, timing, and textural revindication. Even silence plays a part in the composition – and skillfully so.

Eva is the indomitable force blazing an incredible trail in experimental and technical music. A regular at 577 Records, her fans are constantly salivating for more. Under her leadership, the ensemble began performing together in 2017, blowing minds at copious appearances around the Big Apple. Their first release with the label, Novoa / Gress / Gray Trio, Vol. 1, hit the scene in March 2024. They view every show and recording as an uncharted frontier, trudging into the unknown to discover and unearth a new soundscape ready to be received by receptive souls. Don't miss Vol. 2! The album drops as a digital download on August 1, 2025.
