Draguns & Cozzolino Reunite as Flying Sutra to Win Over a New Generation of Fans with Fresh Hit Album Featuring Blossoming Saxist Ayumi Ishito - Out July 25th via 577 Records

Philadelphia's beloved duo Flying Sutra is back! For the first time in a decade, electric guitar wizard George Draguns and percussionist Robert Cozzolino came together to record in the same place at the same time. They were joined by NYC's powerhouse saxist Ayumi Ishito for Out Beyond Orbit, their new 577 Records release – and it's to die for!

Out Beyond Orbit features four deliciously improvised tracks recorded in early 2025. It is made rich by the duo's nineteen years of collaboration which has had critics awestruck by the range and texture of sounds they've created without leaning on electronics. Their previous work with Ayumi made her an obvious choice for the new release. Her insane talent and vast creativity take their experimental improv to a whole new level.

Flying Sutra isn't just a wicked band name. It's also a seemingly supernatural levitating meditation technique. Legend has it that the duo's music can induce this phenomenon in their listeners. Known in their early days for their Japanese No-Wave/experimental psychedelia vibes, the artists now blur the lines between genres.

Although Cozzolino is new to 577 Records, Draguns and Ishito are regulars at the label. In fact, the two recently came together with renowned drummer Ed Wilcox and multi-instrumentalist (and 577 big boss) Daniel Carter as a quartet called Makeshift Spirituals.

100 first-edition CD copies of Out Beyond Orbit will become available on July 25, 2025. You'll also be able to grab it as a digital download. Don't miss it!
