| Stephanie Nakasian's "June in June" Concerts - 6/10 San Diego CA, 6/14 New York NY, 6/15 Delaware Water Gap PA After years of meeting, recording, and playing together at major jazz festivals in the U.S., Harry Allen and Stephanie Nakasian will have their first New York area tour together! Harry appears on Stephanie's "Lullaby in Rhythm" (VSOP) CD tribute to June Christy and on her daughter Veronica Swift's "It's Great to be Alive" recording (age 13!) "Harry is a dream tenor player and singer accompanist." Stephanie Nakasian Stephanie and Harry will perform tributes to the great tenor masters and duets, including: Al Cohn/Zoot Sims, Illinois Jacquet/Arnett Cobb, Stan Getz/Astrud Gilberto, Pete Cooper/June Christy, Sonny Rollins, and many more. Chelsea Table + Stage Saturday, June 14, 7 PM On Tuesday, June 10, in the beautiful outdoor courtyard of the Handlery Hotel San Diego, as part of KSDS Jazz's "California Cool" concert series Stephanie will perform with a stellar band featuring tenor saxophonist Doug Webb and the L.A. Band, original charts from June Christy's catalog "Something Cool: orchestrations by Christy's husband, the great SoCal reedman Bob Cooper. Of all the voices to emerge from the Big Band Era, June Christy's did more to shape the signature vocal sound of West Coast Cool than any other. Succeeding Anita O'Day in Stan Kenton's Orchestra at just 20 years old, Christy soon had a burgeoning solo career, recording with Pete Rugolo and his Orchestra. This partnership would produce 1954's Capitol Records release, "Something Cool, " Christy's most celebrated session and the album that heralded the onset of the vocal cool movement. When Stephanie Nakasian, the pre-eminent interpreter of the June Christy songbook, takes the stage on Tuesday night, June 10, she'll present selections from "Something Cool, " "June's Got Rhythm, " and more. Expect both classic and modern vocal interpretations — backed by reed, brass, and rhythm sections playing original charts.
