| Guitarist/Composer/Producer Daniel Casares to release new recording. Guitarist, composer, and producer Daniel Casares first fell in love with music through classic rock. As a teenager, exploring music beyond rock he stumbled upon classic jazz fusion albums such as Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and In a Silent Way, Soft Machine's Third, Weather Report's early output, and many more. The artist loved the freedom he found in these recordings, which subverted the rock he knew until then while creating something impactful and exciting. After being introduced to John Coltrane's music at age 18, Casares pursued the thorough learning of traditional jazz, abandoning fusion for a few years. 1971 aims to deliver an avant-garde, psychedelic jazz fusion album that contains the spirit of the jazz of that year, when fusion was raw and experimental, although showcasing the artist's forward-looking approach and unique aesthetics. The album features probing improvisations on alto sax, keyboard, and electric guitar and a powerful, adventurous "fictional" rhythm section. The melodies are colorful and harmonies remain mostly modal, with some modern and tonal passages. Daniel Casares - composition, production, guitar, synthesizer, alto saxophone, electric piano, electric bass, drums, percussion, mix, mastering About Daniel Casares Daniel Casares is a guitarist, composer, and producer from A Coruña, Spain. He took up classical guitar at the age of 10, electric guitar at 12, and he started producing original music at 15. After playing in several rock bands in the region of Galicia as a teenager, he moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music. He obtained his degree from the university in 2018, and has since then established himself as a promising figure in the international jazz and experimental scenes. As a guitarist, Casares has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Dave Holland, Terence Blanchard, Devin Daniels, Lluc Casares, Francesco Ciniglio, Iago Fernández, Gonzalo del Val, and many more. He has performed often as a leader in the United States and later in Europe, delivering inventive, energetic performances blurring the lines between jazz and the rock avant-garde. He has performed at several festivals in Spain, Portugal, and India. As a recording artist, the guitarist has developed a more multifaceted career, delving into wide-ranging jazz styles that go from more traditional outings to electronica or free jazz excursions. Casares was inspired by Madlib's Yesterday's Universe to take on full ensemble recordings by himself, becoming proficient on drums, saxophone, synthesizer, and music production in addition to guitar and electric bass. This approach led the artist to signing with experimental Swiss label HOUT Records, where he has released the EP Villa Bonita (2022) and the full-length From a Cabin in the Woods (2023). Casares is now coming out with the fusion-leaning album 1971 (October 2025), where he revisits the music he loved as a teenager and gives it a futuristic spin. write your comments about the article :: © 2025 Jazz News :: home page |
