Guitarist Reza Khan Two NYC Appearances 3/21 The Cutting Room 5/24 The Blue Note

Guitarist-composer Reza Khan is set to perform his unique and memorable music at two major New York clubs.

On Friday Mar. 21 he will bring his sextet which features saxophonist Andrew Neu, pianist Matt King, bassist Leo Traversa, drummer Mauricio Zottarelli, and percussionist Fernando Saci, to the Cutting Room (44 East 32nd St, New York, NY 10016, 212-691-1900). The doors open at 6:30 and the cover charge is $20.

Reza Khan will also bring the same group with keyboardist Bill Heller to the Blue Note (131 W. 3rd St, New York, NY 10012, 212-475-8592) on Sat. May 24. Doors open at noon and show time is 1:30 p.m.

A guitarist with a distinctive sound, Reza Khan has always followed his own path, creating new musical adventures that cannot be easily categorized as anything but inventive and personal modern 21st century music. His grooves are catchy but never predictable, his solos and that of his sidemen are adventurous yet accessible, and his music points towards the future while not neglecting his past.

"Reza Khan was born and raised in Bangladesh. Part of a very musical family, he grew up learning Indian classical music and was trained on the tabla, sitar and sarod but switched his focus to the guitar as a teenager after hearing a Peter Frampton record. He was soon inspired by Pat Metheny, Acoustic Alchemy, the Rippingtons and Brazilian music, forming the popular group "Yours Sincerely" in Bangladesh, an important first step in his musical evolution.

Khan graduated from Queens College with a degree in computer science. He has long had an important career in international relations, traveling the world for many significant humanitarian projects, living for a period in South Africa, and working for years at the United Nations.

However the guitarist has also always conducted a very active career in music, recording seven albums starting with 2009's Painted Diaries and including 2022's Mystical. He has performed at such significant venues as the Iridium, B.B. King's, the Waldorf Astoria, the Zinc Bar, and the City Winery, not to mention the Blue Note Jazz Festival, the DROM Brazilian Jazz Festival, Central Park's Summer Stage, the United Nations, Crooners Supper Club in Minneapolis, San Diego's Embarcadero Center, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the Dubai Jazz Festival, and in Europe.
