| A Wonderful World: Jazz and Blues Musician Portrait Exhibition to Benefit The JFA's Musicians' Emergency Fund We are thrilled to announce the opening of "A Wonderful World: Jazz and Blues Musician Portraits" by renowned photographer, Richard Corman to benefit the Jazz Foundation's Musicians' Emergency Fund. The exhibition opens Thursday, Jan 30th and runs through Thursday, Feb 28th at the Wild Geese Gallery on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, NYC. For the past ten years, Corman has been documenting musicians affiliated with the Jazz Foundation of America, including moments from the iconic Apollo gala, individual portraits and scenes from multiple trips to New Orleans. His passion for the music and the musicians comes through in each of the 37 images in the exhibition, celebrating both emerging and established jazz and blues artists. Corman's work has long served as an artistic visual record of the Foundation's mission and community, and this show brings his remarkable collection to the public. He is excited to share their stories while helping raise funds to support the Jazz Foundation's Musicians' Emergency Fund. All 37 limited edition prints, are signed and numbered by the photographer, and available for $5, 000 per print (unframed), with proceeds providing critical assistance to jazz, blues and roots musicians in crisis. JFA Presents Series of Jazz and Blues Concerts In Support Of The Exhibition But that's not all. In addition to this inspiring exhibition, JFA will host five concerts at the Wild Geese Gallery throughout February. Several of the featured artists are the very same ones whose portraits are prominently on display as part of the exhibition. These performances embody the spirit of jazz and blues, showcasing the vibrant artistry that JFA strives to support every day. All five concerts are free and open to the public, but require a RSVP in advance. February 5, 7-9pm The Phil Young Experience Phil Young is the drummer, bandleader and founder of "Gathering of the Harlem Hip, " which has been chronicled in The New Yorker, and "Phil's House of Blues" at Silvana - two recent, cherished residencies. February 9, 2-4pm Victor Gould Hailed by Downbeat magazine as "a new and important compositional voice, " Victor Gould has earned distinction as a pianist, composer and first-call sideman for such artists as vocalist Jazzmeia Horn, whose Grammy-nominated recordings feature Gould prominently. February 12, 7-9pm James Carter Quartet According to Mark Stryker of the Detroit Free Press, James Carter is a "Detroit-born jazz saxophonist who plays with the unpredictability and vehemence of a volcano." February 19, 7-9pm Danny Mixon & Antoinette Montague Born in Harlem and based in Brooklyn, pianist Danny Mixon has long been one of New York City's jazz treasures. His expressive technique and mastery of the blues have been on keen display from his early days with Patti Labelle and Betty Carter, through engagements with Charles Mingus and Yusef Lateef, and at years-long runs as a leader at uptown institutions like Showman's and the Lenox Lounge. February 26, 7-9pm Bethune Big Band Charles Lonny West was the director of the Bethune Senior Center, on 157th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Harlem, from 1973 until 2003.
