| Antoinette Montague-Danny Mixon-Larry Marshall Celebrating Absalom Jones Sat, February 8, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm Saint John The Divine The Cathedral of St. John The Divine will celebrate the Feast of Blessed Absalom Jones, the first Black priest in the Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 10:30 AM at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 112thStreet. ALL ARE WELCOME. The service always includes participants and worshippers of ALL ethnicities. Absalom Jones was declared a 'Saint' in the Episcopal Church in 1973; since then his Feast day has become part of the Official Church Calendar. The service will be officiated by the Right Reverend Matt Heyd, Bishop of New York .The 2025 preacher will be The Rev Mark Bozutti Priest and Director of Spiritual Formation, Trinity Retreat Center This year we will welcome special guests : Grammy Nominated NYC Queen of Jazz and Blues. Antoinette Montague accompanied by the legendary Danny Mixon, Tony Nominee declared a Living Legend by the International Black Theater. 2024, Larry Marshall, Vissi Dance Theater, Dr. Darrell Smith and the Jazz House Kids, and the Absalom Jones Festival Chorus which is comprised of folks from various parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of New York . Danny Mixon was one of the first musicians to be honored by the National Jazz Musuem in Harlem. In addition Justin Denhert, Music Director at St. Edward Church of the Martyr will premiere " God Rained Down Manna To Eat' a new composition at communion. Other featured artists in the overall service include: Dorian Lake, Naomi Randolph and Tara Nachtigal, Bim Strasberg, Bass, Jae Lee, pianist/organist, Malik Jardin, organ, composer, Chris Almeida, drums, and Charles Lovelle, pianist with Musical Direction by Jeannine Otis and overall coordination by the Absalom Jones Diocesan Committee.
