Emilia Pérez - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the Film by Jacques Audiard With Original Songs & Score by Clément Ducol & Camille

Sony Music Masterworks today releases EMILIA PÉREZ (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) featuring original songs and score music written by CLÉMENT DUCOL and CAMILLE for the award-winning musical drama from Jacques Audiard. Acclaimed composer Clément Ducol and chart-topping French singer Camille have crafted an expansive body of music covering multiple genres, each tailored to the onscreen story and its cast of characters. Included within the album are 16 Spanish-language vocal tracks featuring performances by the film's ensemble cast including Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Adriana Paz. With music supervision by Pierre-Marie Dru, who also acts as the album's executive producer, the soundtrack captures the complexity of each character's innermost thoughts and feelings, further immersing viewers into the onscreen story while complimenting Audiard's bold filmmaking vision. Following an award-winning festival run, Emilia Pérez debuts in select US theaters today before making its streaming debut in the US, UK and Ireland exclusively on Netflix beginning Wednesday, November 13.

Originally envisioned by Audiard as an opera libretto, Emilia Pérez's audacious story of self-actualization set in cartel-controlled Mexico developed alongside the music itself, eventually evolving into a musical drama whose storytelling relies heavily on the power of music. Crafting musical sketches in tandem with Audiard's screenplay, Ducol and Camille's earliest demos were not written in their native language of French, but instead in Spanish, the duo working with a Mexican-born interpreter for lyrical consistency. And while the film's setting was an important influence in their writing process, Ducol and Camille eventually expanded the soundscape to encompass multiple genres each tailored to the onscreen characters. The album's 16 original songs reflect this expansiveness – from the driving hard rock-meets-hip hop flair of Zoe Saldaña's Rita to the lyrically intimate numbers by Karla Sofía Gascón's Emilia, the rebellious spirit embodied by Selena Gomez's Jessi and folk ballads of Adriana Paz's Epifanía – each song was carefully curated to reflect their character's deeply personal journeys throughout the film.

The film's opening numbers are both performed by Zoe Saldaña, the slowly building intensity of "El Alegato" and the anthemic, call-and-response style vocals of "Todo y Nada" setting the scene for both Saldaña's character and the larger journey ahead. That same energy reaches its crescendo on "El Mal, " which features a scorching hip hop-inflected performance by Saldaña, effortlessly woven together with a rousing speech sung by Karla Sofía Gascón's Emilia during one of the film's most show-stopping onscreen moments. Another centerpiece to the film, "Mi Camino, " is performed karaoke-style by Selena Gomez, who delivers the track's deeply emotive message of self-love and acceptance with a singular performance befitting the multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-nominated recording artist and actress.

The score to Emilia Pérez, meanwhile, was written in postproduction, challenging Ducol and Camille to craft instrumentals that would complement rather than diminish the formidable soundscape established by their original songs. Turning to key melodies from these songs, the duo crafted a score often punctuated with wordless vocal performances by Camille, managing to create a singular, vocal-based throughline between instrumentals and original songs. Together with the original songs, the 43-track, 2-disc collection figures as a key storytelling device that captures the nuances of each character and their onscreen journey while echoing the genre-defying scope of Emilia Pérez. The music has already seen widespread critical acclaim, winning the Cannes Soundtrack award at the film's global festival debut and earning Ducol and Camille the TIFF Variety Artisan Award in Toronto.
