Story Time & Release Party Louise Rogers & Francis Hsueh MILES DAVIS WAS HIS NAME Sat., Dec. 7th 1:00pm - 2:00pm Word Up Community Books

Miles Davis Was His Name - So What is a new children's book written by Louise Rogers and illustrated by Francis Hsueh.

Using Louise's original lyrics to Miles Davis' groundbreaking piece, "So What", and illustrations by artist Francis Hsueh, young readers are inspired to learn about this visionary jazz trumpeter, composer, and innovator.

Vibrant and colorful illustrations of music notes, instruments, city landscapes, and birds (evocative of saxophonist Charlie "the Bird" Parker) introduce readers to his character, personality, and commitment to the art of trumpet playing. "So What" can be found on the recording "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis as well as Louise's recording "Bop Boo Day! Louise Rogers Celebrates Jazz For Children".

Mr. Hsueh playfully reimagines well known images of Miles Davis and uses a palette inspired by Davis' album cover art. These illustrations combined with the text encourage young readers to explore language, sound, and reading.

The book is available at Fountain Bookshop 803 West 187 Street, NYC
