A Celebration of Ghazals with Pratibha Singh Baghel At Royal Albert Hall, Nov 17

One of India's most versatile singers, Pratibha Singh Baghel's dream to perform ghazals at London's Royal Albert Hall, comes true on Sunday 17th November. In a sublime performance accompanied by South Asian musicians, Pratibha Singh Baghel celebrates ghazals and geet. Pronounced 'guzzle' – ghazals are poems that traditionally focus on romantic love, that lend themselves to being performed in a classical format with minimal musical accompaniment. 'Geet' is a Hindi and Urdu word translating as a lyrical poem or song.

Pratibha Singh Baghel will be presented on stage by legendary multiple award-winning lyricist and poet extraordinaire, Javed Akhtar. This concert produced by Sufiscore and Inner Circle is specifically curated for the UK audience. The musical director for the concert is the highly acclaimed violinist, Deepak Pandit, who is no stranger to the UK stage. Deepak Pandit was born into a Qawwali family, surrounded and inspired by devotional Sufi music for his formative years and is one of India's leading violinists and composers. He performed with and composed for the late ghazal vocal legend, Jagjit Singh for over twenty years with live concerts across the UK and globe.

Along with extensive accomplishments in Indian musical theatre and Bollywood playback singing, Pratibha Singh Baghel excels in the art of classical Hindustani music with a forward-looking, internationally minded modern vein. From ghazal to light classical, from folk to contemporary, vocalist Pratibha Singh Baghel is blessed with the ability to powerfully sing a broad range of genres. Pratibha received the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Award (2008). She sung for acclaimed web series "Bandish Bandits" and for many feature films, including the song Saathiya for current film "Yudhra" (2024). Pratibha also featured in "Mughal-e-Azam", a highly acclaimed stage production. She played lead role in theatrical musical play "Umrao Jaan Ada", adapted for stage by music duo Salim Sulaiman.

In 2020, Pratibha and Deepak Pandit released their first ghazal album, "Bole Naina". The album featured legendary lyricist Gulzar and table maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. Within two days the video reached 50 million views on YouTube. Pratibha is regularly featured in releases by UK based record label and YouTube channel, Sufiscore.

India's legendary screenwriter, lyricist and poet, Javed Akhtar, rose to recognition through the historical Salim-Javed duo. Javed Akhtar's screenwriting breakthrough came with "Zanjeer" (1973), the iconic Amitabh Bachchan film starrer. He also co-wrote Deewar and Sholay (1975). All three films are now honoured with iconic cult status and went on to have a significant impact on Indian popular culture. Celebrated for his work in Hindi cinema, Javed Akhtar's accolades include five National Film Awards, the Padma Shri (1999) and the Padma Bushan (2007), two of India's highest honours. As a poet he has worked closely with many legendary artists including Jagjit Singh and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
