| Sergio Pereira - BOSSA+ (Best Latin Jazz Album) Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sergio Pereira started playing acoustic guitar (violão) at the age of 8 years old, influenced by his older brother who played the guitar and helped him with his first chords. He has also been influenced by the music of bossa-nova giants at the time such as Joao Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Carlos Lyra, Joao Donato, Marcus Valle and many more. Growing up in Rio in the 60's and 70's has contributed tremendously to the energy, groove and rhythms reflected in Sergio's music today. Moving to New York in the 80's has motivated him to, not only continue playing the guitar, but to further enhance his knowledge of music and the guitar itself, hence he started to study with some of the jazz greats including Chuck Wayne, Sal Salvador, Alex Adrian, Hui Cox and Joe Carter. Since the beginning of the 90's he has been traveling the world, playing with different bands and at various venues in many different countries in Europe, Africa and elsewhere. He has shared music with top world musicians which include, Mark Egan, Filo Machado, David Mann, Gil Goldsten, Oriente Lopez, Gabriel Grossi, Helio Alves, Nilson Matta, Mauricio Zottarelli, Lonnie Plaxico, Perico Sambeat, Paulo Paulelli, Duduka da Fonseca, Alex Sipiagin, Greg Skaff and many others. Sergio has been presenting his work with great success at venues and jazz festivals throughout Europe and New York City. His albums 'Swingando', 'Nu Brasil' (Zoho Music) and 'Finesse' (Sedajazz Records) have all won many music awards. 'Finesse' has brought home the latest win for 'Best Tropical Album' at the 'World Entertainment Awards' in Los Angeles, 2024. His latest album 'BOSSA+' has been released on April 2024 by the label Tiger Turn, LLC. Has been co-produced by Mauricio Zottarelli. The album includes Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo, Cuban-born pianists Ivan "Melon" Lewis and Luis Guerra, Venezuelan-born trumpeter Chipi Chacon, drummer Mauricio Zottarelli and Jose San Martin, and Cuban-born bassists Ivan Ruiz Machado and Ariel Ramirez. The album has already won 2 Global Music Awards (Silver Medals) for Best Compositions and Best Instrumentalist. The album is more than just a mere collection of songs; it is an immersive experience that showcases the fusion of boss nova with other Brazilian rhythms, all while being infused with the improvisational spirit of jazz. The title BOSSA+ itself suggests an expansion beyond traditional bossa nova, incorporating elements of samba and jazz to create a sound that is at once familiar and refreshingly new.
